Scrotal flap for the coverage of ischial ulcers: case report and description of surgical technique

Abstract

Introduction: pressure ulcers represent a significant health problem. These lesions, especially those in the ischial region, can lead to severe complications and often require advanced surgical techniques. Unfortunately, recurrence is common, and the availability of local flaps is limited. Objectives: to present two cases of patients with ischial pressure ulcers successfully treated with scrotal flaps. Materials and methods: the evaluation of the two clinical cases and the description of the surgical technique were presented. Results: both patients, with complex clinical histories and multiple previous interventions, demonstrated satisfactory evolution without short- or long-term complications. The scrotal flap provided adequate coverage and facilitated effective healing due to its excellent vascularization. Conclusions: the scrotal flap is a safe and effective option for the treatment of ischial ulcers. Despite its limited use in this context, it offers reliable coverage and promotes healing, making it a valuable tool in surgical practice.
